Daily Pre-Start Checklist
Complete all 17 checks before every shift. Correct failed safety, fluid or attachment checks before operating.
Engine oil level
Park level, stop the engine for 10 minutes, then wipe, reinsert and read the dipstick.
Act if: below MIN, milky or fuel-smelling. Use the specified 15W-40 oil. System capacity: 9.1 L.
Engine coolant level
With the engine cold, check the coolant reservoir. Never open the radiator cap hot.
Act if: below MIN or dropping repeatedly. Use the specified 50:50 coolant mix. Capacity: 20 L.
Hydraulic oil level
Retract all rams, lower the loader, secure the backhoe in transport position and read the sight gauge.
Act if: below MIN or the oil is foamy or milky. System capacity: 107 L.
Fuel level and water separator
Check the fuel gauge and drain water or sediment from the pre-filter bowl into a container.
Act if: water or sludge appears. Continue draining and inspect the fuel quality before starting.
Air-filter restriction
Check the restriction indicator and pre-cleaner bowl. Empty the dust bowl daily in dusty conditions.
Act if: the indicator is red. Clean or replace the element before starting; never run without it.
Transmission oil level
Check with the machine level, oil warm and engine idling.
Act if: below range, black or burnt-smelling. Capacity: 18 L (2WD) or 20 L (4WD).
Engine bay and drive belt
Inspect radiator fins, hoses, clamps, wiring and the drive belt.
Act if: coolant or oil traces, a cracked belt or a dust-choked core are found.
Loader and backhoe greasing
Grease boom, dipper, bucket, loader-arm, stabiliser, swing-frame and steering points.
Act if: a pin is dry, squealing, shiny or has excessive joint play.
Hoses and hydraulic leaks
Walk around the backhoe, loader, stabiliser and swing circuits; inspect hoses, rams and the ground below.
Act if: spray, bulging, exposed braid or a rapid drip is present. Never use a bare hand to find a leak.
Buckets, teeth and cutting edges
Inspect backhoe teeth, side cutters, pins and locks plus the loader cutting edge and spill guard.
Act if: a tooth is missing or cracked, a pin is loose, or the cutting edge is damaged.
Tyres and wheel nuts
Inspect all tyres for pressure, cuts and sidewall damage; confirm every wheel nut is secure.
Act if: pressure is low, ply is exposed or a wheel nut is loose or missing.
Brakes and parking brake
Test both foot-brake pedals for firm operation and confirm the parking brake holds on a slope.
Act if: a pedal is spongy, the machine pulls sideways or the parking brake will not hold.
Steering and stabilisers
Turn lock-to-lock and cycle both stabilisers while checking for noise, restricted travel or drift.
Act if: steering is heavy, the pump groans or a stabiliser creeps down.
Cabin, ROPS/FOPS and mirrors
Inspect the protective structure, mounts, doors, gas struts, glass and mirrors.
Act if: a ROPS/FOPS member is cracked, repaired or damaged. Take the machine out of service.
Warning system and lights
Confirm the cluster lamp and buzzer self-test, then check work lights, indicators, horn and reverse alarm.
Act if: any warning lamp, buzzer, horn or reverse alarm fails.
Battery and cut-off switch
Inspect the 12 V, 110 Ah battery, terminals and battery cut-off switch.
Act if: terminals are loose or corroded, the case is damaged or the cut-off switch does not operate.
SiteWatch telematics
Confirm the unit is powered and reporting machine hours and location.
Act if: the unit is offline or not reporting; service-due and fault alerts may be missed.

Warning and Fault Actions
RED = stop immediately. AMBER = take action before continuing work.
Engine oil pressure
Immediate action: stop the engine immediately. Check the 9.1 L oil system and inspect for leaks. Do not restart until inspected.
Risk if ignored: bearing, turbocharger and engine seizure damage.
Engine coolant temperature
Immediate action: stop work, idle briefly, shut down and allow the engine to cool fully. Never open the radiator cap hot.
Risk if ignored: warped head, failed gasket, cracked liner or major engine damage.
Engine protection shutdown
Immediate action: park safely, lower all equipment, apply the parking brake and record the fault code before inspection.
Risk if ignored: a sensor or protection event can develop into engine or after-treatment damage.
Alternator or charging failure
Immediate action: shut down safely and inspect the drive belt and charging circuit.
Risk if ignored: total electrical loss, a flat battery and loss of warning functions.
Brake pressure
Immediate action: stop on level ground, apply the parking brake, chock the wheels and do not travel.
Risk if ignored: loss of braking, collision or rollover.
Low hydraulic oil or pressure
Immediate action: stop, lower the loader and backhoe to the ground and locate the leak. Do not run the pump dry.
Risk if ignored: pump seizure, contamination or uncontrolled equipment movement.
Hydraulic oil temperature
Immediate action: reduce load or idle until temperature falls, clean the cooler and check oil level and grade.
Risk if ignored: oil oxidation, hardened seals and shortened component life.
Air-filter restriction
Immediate action: clean or replace the primary element and empty the pre-cleaner bowl.
Risk if ignored: power loss, high fuel use, dust ingestion and turbocharger wear.
Water in fuel or filter restriction
Immediate action: drain the separator and replace the filter if normal flow does not return.
Risk if ignored: common-rail pump and injector failure.
Transmission oil temperature
Immediate action: stop torque-converter stalling, idle to cool and check the warm oil level.
Risk if ignored: clutch-pack glazing and torque-converter damage.
Low fuel level
Immediate action: refuel before the tank runs dry.
Risk if ignored: air and sediment entering the high-pressure fuel circuit.
Low coolant level
Immediate action: allow the engine to cool, top up with the specified mix and trace repeated loss.
Risk if ignored: escalation to overheating and head-gasket damage.
Service due or SiteWatch alert
Immediate action: schedule service against the hourmeter reading and investigate reported faults.
Risk if ignored: progressive wear and overdue fluid or filter changes.
Seat belt or operator presence
Immediate action: fasten the belt, latch the door and confirm the side-shift lock before moving.
Risk if ignored: ejection during a rollover and ineffective ROPS/FOPS protection.
