The Boomer L2 is a hydraulically controlled, two-boom face drilling rig for mining and tunnelling, with coverage up to 104 m², a standard 120 kW diesel carrier engine and 158 kW total installed electrical power.
Technical specifications for the Epiroc Boomer L2. Standard and optional configurations are identified where stated.
Daily pre-start checks · PH/DH service schedule · warning actions · fluids and lubricants.
Complete before operation and rectify safety defects before returning the rig to work.
Check engine-oil dipstick with engine stopped. Check cold coolant level in the expansion vessel.
Act if: oil is below MIN, milky or leaking, or coolant is low/leaking.
Inspect fuel/oil/coolant lines and joints. Empty the air-intake evacuation valve and check the restriction indicator.
Act if: hoses or joints leak, the valve is damaged, or restriction remains.
Perform the prescribed parking/service-brake function check and test each fitted emergency stop.
Act if: the rig moves during the holding test or any emergency stop fails.
Check hatches, guards, controls, warning signs and access areas; remove mud and cuttings.
Act if: a guard cannot be secured, controls stick, or access is unsafe.
Inspect exposed hoses/cables and check the fire extinguisher and fitted fire-suppression system.
Act if: insulation is damaged, hoses leak, or fire equipment is damaged/discharged.
Inspect both BUT 35 booms, cylinders, feed/cradle, ropes, supports and drill-rod support for wear, cracks and leaks.
Act if: a crack, loose joint, leak, damaged rope/slide or uncontrolled drift is found.
Clean each rock drill, inspect shank-adapter threads, check COP OIL level and verify air/oil lubrication during drilling.
Act if: threads are damaged, leakage is abnormal or lubrication delivery is absent.
Read the tank sight glass in the prescribed parked position and check return-filter restriction.
Act if: level is low, oil is milky, a leak is present or restriction is indicated.
After safe shutdown/depressurization check reservoir oil level, compressor condition and air-filter/cyclone cup.
Act if: oil is low/leaking, compressor overheats, or intake is blocked/damaged.
Keep the water strainer clean and inspect flushing supply, hoses and flow.
Act if: the strainer is damaged or flushing flow remains poor.
Check reel gear-oil level, hose connections, cable condition and orderly reel travel.
Act if: oil/water leaks, damaged cable or abnormal reel movement is present.
Rinse cuttings and dirt from the rig, especially feed/boom fronts; inspect grease points and accessible level indicators.
Act if: debris blocks movement/cooling or a lubrication point is dry/damaged.
PH = percussion hours for drilling equipment. DH = diesel-engine hours for carrier and engine systems.
Threaded unions & nipples
Tighten.
Side bolts
Retighten to the drill-specific procedure.
Accumulator condition/pressure
Check by trained personnel only.
Gear housing
Lubricate with COP GREASE.
Feed assembly
Clean; lubricate pulleys/water-hose drum; check joints, ropes, bushings and slide pieces.
BUT 35 boom points
Lubricate linkage/telescope points and inspect hoses, cylinders, valves, nipples and threaded joints.
Hydraulic breather & tank
Check breather restriction and drain condensation.
GAR 5 air filter
Check condition; replace if necessary.
Tyres / transmission / chassis
Check pneumatic tyre pressure, Clark 24000 oil level and axle-to-frame bolt tightness.
Battery terminals
Clean and protect.
Radiator
Clean.
Service & parking brake pressure
Check.
Feed bearings / cylinder / retaining bolts
Inspect condition, function, leakage and retaining bolts.
Hydraulic breather filter
Scheduled replacement.
Axle / hub / wheel items
Check axle-centre/final-drive and hub oil levels, wheel-nut torque; grease propeller-shaft joints.
Engine air-filter main element
Replace.
Compressor service
Clean exterior/coarse separator; change reservoir oil and oil filter; check receiver safety valve and hoses.
Engine oil & oil filter
Change; oil interval is also limited by calendar/operating conditions.
Fuel / air / coolant checks
Drain fuel-tank contamination; clean pre-filter; replace air-filter safety cartridge; check coolant concentration.
Clark 24000 oil & filter
Change at the standard interval.
Brake discs / reel units
Inspect brake-disc wear; change reel gear oil, adjust slip coupling and check drive-chain tension.
Workshop overhaul
Remove each applicable rock drill for workshop overhaul; abnormal wear may require earlier work.
Return oil filter
Replace.
Water-separator particle filter
Replace where installed.
Fuel filters
Replace fuel-filter cartridge(s) and fuel pre-filter/water-separator element.
Engine-system inspection
Check hoses/couplings, battery/cables, cold-start device, belts, mounts and crankcase breather; drain charge-air cooler.
Temperature / separator / electrical
Check temperature monitor and electrical connections; replace oil-separator element in receiver.
Articulation & axle oils
Inspect articulation joint; change axle-centre/final-drive and hub-reduction oils.

Stop the engine safely. Check oil level/leaks and diagnose before restart.
Stop safely, follow shutdown guidance, allow cooling, then check level, leaks and radiator.
Secure the rig and repair before tramming.
Remove the machine from service until repaired and tested.
Isolate upstream supply and have an authorized electrician investigate.
Stop the affected drill; restore ECL supply and verify delivery before drilling.
Stop and have trained personnel check the accumulator system.
Stop drilling; restore flow and investigate the strainer, supply, hoses and pump.
Replace a blocked element and investigate the contamination source.
Drain the separator immediately and check fuel condition.
Correct water ingress and change affected oil before restart.
Stop, isolate, cool and fully depressurize before investigation.
Stop, mechanically support the equipment and arrange repair.
Stop and isolate where safe, evacuate and follow the site emergency plan.
Select products for the fitted unit and actual temperature; refill to level indicators rather than assuming nominal volume is a fill instruction.
TCD 2013 L04 engine oil
DEUTZ-approved oil; DQC III basis for the 500 DH schedule. Select SAE grade for ambient temperature.
Engine coolant
Approved ethylene-glycol coolant with corrosion protection; do not mix incompatible products.
Diesel fuel
EN 590 or ASTM D975 1-D / 2-D as applicable.
Drilling hydraulics
Mineral hydraulic oil meeting ISO 11158 HM / DIN 51524 HLP or HVLP; select viscosity by actual tank-oil temperature.
Rock-drill ECL
