Daily Pre-Start Checklist

Complete all checks before every shift. Do not start the engine until every item is verified — catching a fault in the yard is far cheaper than a breakdown on site.

Engine — Oil, Coolant & Belts

Pull dipstick — wipe, reinsert, remove. Oil must read between MIN and MAX (top up with Cummins-approved SAE 15W-40 API CI-4/CJ-4; capacity 14 L). Check coolant between LOW and FULL (24 L). Inspect drive and alternator belts for fraying/slipping and check for oil leaks.

Act if: oil below MIN, coolant low, any leak or unusual noise — do not start.

Engine Coolant

Inspect overflow reservoir — level between LOW and FULL. Add distilled water + coolant mix (30–50% ethylene glycol) only (24 L system). Check for leaks at hoses and clamps.

Do NOT open the radiator cap when hot.

Hydraulic Oil Level

With boom/arm retracted and bucket flat on the ground, check the sight glass — level must be in the green zone. Use SANY/Cummins-approved hydraulic oil (239 L tank / 180 L refill). Inspect hoses and cylinders for leaks.

Act if: below green zone or milky/contaminated oil — do not operate.

Fuel Level

Check the fuel gauge on the DOMCS display. Drain water from the fuel pre-filter sediment bowl daily — open the drain valve until clean fuel flows. Fuel tank capacity: 350 L.

Fill before the start of shift to prevent air entering the fuel system.

Air Filter Indicator

Check the restriction indicator on the filter housing — RED zone means clean or replace the primary element immediately. Tap the pre-cleaner to remove dust. The Cummins BT5.9 is sensitive to dust ingestion.

Do NOT operate with a clogged filter.

Battery & Electrical

Inspect both battery terminals (2 × 12V) for corrosion — clean with a dry cloth if needed. Check all cables are tight and undamaged. Verify the master switch. Confirm the DOMCS display powers on with no stored fault codes.

Act if: heavy corrosion, loose terminals or stored fault codes — resolve before starting.

Tracks & Undercarriage

Walk around both tracks — check sag (allowable 10–30 mm at mid-span). Remove mud, stone packing and debris from the frame, roller guards and between track shoes. Check for cracked or broken track shoes (45 per side).

Act if: sag out of range, stone packing or cracked shoes — clear/adjust before operating.

Attachment Controls

Test boom, arm and bucket controls in an open area — all must respond smoothly, without hesitation or spongy feel. Check bucket teeth for excessive wear or missing tips. Inspect the cutting edge and side plates.

Act if: spongy/hesitant response or worn teeth — repair before use.

Greasing

Apply EP-2 lithium grease to all boom foot, boom cylinder, arm cylinder, bucket and linkage pins. Check pin locking plates are secure. Inspect the swing bearing grease point.

In dusty or wet conditions, grease every 4–8 hours.

Machine Alerts (DOMCS)

Check the DOMCS intelligent controller display for active fault codes, warning indicators or alert messages. Verify all gauge readings are within normal range before starting the engine.

Note any codes — do not clear without diagnosing.

Cab & Safety Equipment

Check the lockout (safety lever). Fasten the seatbelt and confirm it is secure. Inspect mirrors and ROPS/FOPS cab guard condition. Test the horn and backup alarm. Check the fire extinguisher charge. Windscreen clean and undamaged.

Act if: any safety device fails — do not operate until repaired.

RED

Engine Oil Pressure Low

Oil pressure has dropped below the minimum threshold and the DOMCS alarm sounds — can indicate oil pump failure, low oil level or a blocked oil passage.

Immediate action: STOP the engine immediately. Do not restart. Check oil level and add if below MIN (14 L). If the level is OK, do not start — call SANY / Cummins service.

Risk if ignored: running with low oil pressure destroys the engine bearings.

RED

Engine Coolant Temperature High

Coolant temperature exceeds 105°C (Cummins BT5.9 limit) — can indicate a blocked radiator, coolant loss, failed thermostat or a broken water-pump belt.

Immediate action: STOP work. Idle at low speed 3–5 minutes to cool the turbocharger, then shut off. Do not open the radiator cap when hot. Check coolant (24 L) and clean the radiator fins.

Risk if ignored: warped cylinder head, blown head gasket, seized engine.

AMBER

Engine Coolant Level Low

Coolant in the overflow reservoir has dropped below the LOW mark — indicates a slow leak or consumption (24 L system).

Immediate action: STOP at a safe position and let the engine cool completely. Check hoses, clamps and radiator for leaks. Top up with the correct 30–50% ethylene glycol mix.

Do NOT add plain water alone — it damages Cummins BT5.9 liner seals.

AMBER

Hydraulic Oil Temperature High

Hydraulic oil temperature exceeds the safe limit (typically > 90°C), causing accelerated seal wear and oil degradation.

Immediate action: reduce cycle intensity — hold the boom raised and idle 5–10 minutes to let the oil cool. Check the oil cooler fins for blockage and check the oil level. If it persists, stop work and call service.

Risk if ignored: pump seal failure, cylinder seal damage, control-valve damage.

AMBER

Fuel Level Low

Fuel is below the safe reserve in the 350 L tank. The Cummins BT5.9 common-rail system is sensitive — running dry causes an air lock and requires re-priming.

Immediate action: complete the current cycle and move to a safe refuelling location. Refuel from a clean, filtered source and drain the water separator afterwards.

Do NOT run dry — re-priming requires bleeding the fuel system.

AMBER

Air Filter Restriction

The air-intake restriction indicator is in the RED zone. A clogged filter reduces Cummins BT5.9 power, increases fuel consumption and accelerates wear.

Immediate action: stop at a safe position. Remove the primary element — tap gently or clean with dry compressed air (max 30 psi, from inside out). Never wash with water. Replace if damaged or cleaned more than 3 times.

Risk if ignored: power loss, black smoke, overheating, injector damage.

AMBER

Battery / Charging Fault

Charging-system fault or low battery voltage (2 × 12V system) — can indicate alternator failure, a loose belt or corroded terminals.

Immediate action: check and tighten battery terminal connections. Inspect the alternator drive belt tension and condition. If the fault persists, stop work — do not allow the batteries to fully discharge in the field. Contact a SANY electrician.

Risk if ignored: machine will not restart once batteries are flat.

RED

Cummins Engine Fault Code

The Cummins BT5.9 ECM has logged a fault code on the DOMCS display. RED = active fault that may derate power; AMBER = logged but not currently critical.

Immediate action: note the fault code number exactly. Do not clear the code before diagnosis. RED codes: stop work immediately and contact Cummins / SANY service. AMBER codes: continue with caution and schedule service.

With the standard 2,400 mm arm, the Sany SY210C-9 achieves a maximum digging depth of 6,037 mm and a maximum digging reach of 9,312 mm. With the optional 2,900 mm arm, digging depth increases to 6,600 mm (21' 8") and reach extends to 10,280 mm.

The DOMCS Intelligent Controller is Sany's intelligent control system on the SY210C-9. It provides four selectable working modes:
  • H (Heavy): Maximum power for demanding digging applications
  • S (Standard): Balanced power and fuel efficiency for general earthmoving
  • L (Light): Reduced power for fine grading and finishing work
  • B (Breaker): Optimised hydraulic flow for hydraulic breaker attachment operation
The system also includes an auto idle speed function that automatically reduces engine RPM when controls are inactive, lowering fuel consumption and engine wear.

Yes. The Sany SY210C-9 includes a built-in GPRS / GPS / GIS remote monitoring system as standard. This provides advance GPRS-based machine monitoring, remote error diagnosis and smart machine alerts — allowing fleet managers to track machine location, monitor operating status, receive fault notifications and reduce unplanned downtime without visiting the site.
